"Kombucha": Cheers to a Healthy Life

We all like to keep up with the trends but what if it could be healthy too??

Well let me introduce you to "Kombucha "- a drink for the gut, a drink for life.

It is a fermented, lightly effervescent, sweetened black tea which not only aids digestion but also eradicates toxins and boosts energy levels originally from the ancient China and it became a sensation in the 21st century.

Apart from the benefits mentioned above, there are several other advantages of consuming kombucha like;

  1. It serves as a probiotic by supporting gut health and preventing bloating and constipation.

  2. Induces antimicrobial and antioxidant properties reducing infections and inflammations.

  3. Helps with healthy weight loss and lowers triglyceride level.

  4. Promotes better sleeping habits and lessens stress.

  5. Strengthens the immune system and provides hepato and cardiovascular support.

If you're interested to know how it is made , Lets break it down !!

Its a simple recipe with basic ingredients like black tea, sugar and scoby.

To start with initially the tea leaves are boiled in hot water and mixed with sugar to get a sweeten and allowed the tea to cool down to room temperature.

And here comes the interesting part "Scoby"

"SCOBY" an acronym for Symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast. A dense, rubbery, opaque and round substance with slight vinger-ish smell, essential for converting sweetened tea into kombucha via fermentation which can be easily made at home.

The raw kombucha is used as starter material and it is mixed with sweet tea and kept in a covered glass jar to prevent contamination.

Then it is fermented for about a month to allow the symbiotic relationship to take place, and it can further be used to produce more. Well, one of the key benefits of scoby is that it's always growing, which means you are never out of stock.

visual breakdown of the global kombucha consumption market share you can see how the USA dominates at around 60%, with Europe and other regions following behind.

Here’s a bar graph comparing the probiotic content of kombucha with traditional Indian drinks! As you can see, Kanji, Buttermilk, and Lassi hold their own quite well against kombucha.

In short, the traditionally originating Kombucha has become a trend in the current times due to the benefits it offers- whether it be aiding digestion or boosting immunity.

The key ingredient "Scoby" even makes it possible to brew them at home with ease. So would you like to try some?
